Tracked Prompts are the questions AEO Goal regularly submits to AI engines to check whether your brand appears in the answers. They are the foundation of all citation and Share of Model data.
Adding a prompt
- Go to Prompts.
- Click Add Prompt.
- Paste the question text (e.g. “What is the best AI SEO tool?”).
- Select a category (see below).
- Optionally assign to a product.
- Click Add.
AEO Goal queues the prompt for its next scheduled run. Results typically appear within a few hours.
Prompt categories
Categorize prompts by buyer journey stage:
| Category | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness | General topic questions | “What is AEO?” |
| Problem-aware | Questions about problems you solve | “How do I track AI citations?” |
| Solution-aware | Questions about solution types | “What tools track AI visibility?” |
| Decision | Direct comparison or recommendation requests | “Best AI SEO tool?” |
| Competitor | Questions where competitors might appear | “Alternatives to Semrush?” |
Decision and competitor prompts typically have the highest impact on SoM.
Genuine mentions filter
AEO Goal’s genuine mentions filter (enabled by default on the Prompts page) excludes self-referential answers where the AI is simply repeating the prompt back (“You asked about X brand…”). Only organic, unprompted mentions count toward your SoM.
Prompt win/loss
Each prompt shows a Win/Loss status:
- Win - your brand was mentioned in the most recent run
- Loss - another brand was mentioned but not yours
- No winner - no brand was specifically recommended
Click a prompt to see the full answer, which brands appeared, and the position of each mention.
Bulk import
To add many prompts at once:
- Click Import on the Prompts page.
- Paste or upload a newline-separated list of prompts.
- Assign a default category.
- Click Import.
Run frequency
Prompts run on a daily schedule by default. Premium plans allow more frequent runs. You can also trigger a manual re-run from the prompt detail view.
Deleting prompts
Click the … menu on any prompt and select Delete. Historical data for that prompt is retained but the prompt will no longer run.
